Looking for a fuel-efficient coastal cruising trawler that can head straight to the Bahamas or do the Great Loop? Lightning is a 2007 Ocean Alexander 50 Classicco powered by a 300 HP John Deere 6068 enjoying a smooth ride underway courtesy of her Key Power active fins stabilizers. She is very well equipped and has had an active and continually improved life. Her impressive equipment includes 12” touchscreen chart plotter displays in both helm stations for easy navigation planning, bow and stern thrusters to simplify docking, an Onan generator to keep you charged and Cruisair air conditioning to keep you climate happy running north or south through the latitudes.
Ocean Alexander has been building top quality power yachts for decades. Better known for their motor yachts, those in the know are familiar with their strong entrance to the trawler market with their popular Classicco series. The 50 Classicco is an excellent coastal cruiser featuring two staterooms and two heads configured with a raised pilothouse with flybridge atop. She was designed and built for an owner operator couple who want to explore new shores.
Lightning’s interior layout is pleasing with teak furnishings. This is a classic trawler arrangement with saloon and galley merged, then up through the pilothouse and down forward to the staterooms. The owner stateroom is midship below the pilothouse and has an ensuite head and shower. The second stateroom is forward with single berths outboard and the separate head with shower at the base of the stairs is convenient for crew, making it easier to invite guests. You will find storage for belongings and provisions throughout.
Like many well thought out trawlers, the outside spaces were also a priority. Forward of the helm is a protected Portuguese bridge leading to the foredeck. Above the saloon is a large boat deck for the tender that connects forward to the flybridge and aft is the swim platform and cockpit.
DESCRIPTION:
Cockpit: You can board Lightning through one of two entry gates positioned aft and to starboard. The swim platform makes it easy to step in or out of your tender and convenient for swimming off the back of the boat. The cockpit has tall bulwarks. All of the hawsepipes with cleat horns are recessed. There is a hot/cold cockpit shower and a separate locker with fresh and seawater hose bib and shore water connection.
Lazarette: This area can be accessed from the engine room or, more commonly, from the large hinged hatch in the cockpit sole. The lazarette has easy access for servicing the steering system and looking after the stern thruster. This is also where a Manson 80 lb. secondary anchor with 200 feet of rode and 25 feet of chain. This is a spacious place for storage.
Saloon: The cockpit leads directly to the saloon through a large Diamond Sea Glaze sliding door with upper window. The absence of walking side decks outside maximizes the interior saloon area – creating an expansive interior, enhanced by the large windows outboard and aft. To port is a cabinet area with lockers. A large settee with moveable dining table is to starboard. The settee area has additional storage space under the cushions. There are two Ottomans with lift up tops for storage inside. The soles are teak and holly. There is a lighted cabinet forward with clear glass in the door for display purposes. Most interior lights are LED.
Engine Room: The engine room is under the saloon and galley. It is accessible via opening floor hatches, one forward to port, the other aft to starboard. The engine room machinery is easily accessible for service and inspection.
Galley: At the front of the saloon on the starboard side it a very practical galley. The galley has plenty of counter space supported below with lockers and drawers. The galley is equipped with the necessary appliances. The window above the sink opens.
Pilothouse: Up a couple of steps from the galley/saloon you enter the raised pilothouse. The pilothouse on Lightning has excellent visibility forward and outboard. You will enjoy navigation from the Stidd helm chair. The settee aft is fronted by a teak table. A private watch berth is up and behind the settee. The electronics and engine controls are easily accessible. The overhead is teak, a nautical and elegant touch. You can exit outside with easy access to the side decks and the Portuguese bridge through the sliding doors on either side. Custom insect screens line the doors and have magnetic touch center connections. The slightly curved stairway on the port side leads down to the staterooms. The reverse raked windows with the Portuguese bridge give the Ocean Alexander 50 Classicco a serious offshore looking profile that is also practical.
Forward stateroom: Going down the stairs from the pilot house on the port side you reach the lower-level landing. There is a guest head with separate shower, that also serves as a “day head” to starboard, the owner stateroom aft and the guest stateroom forward. There are two single berths outboard along the hull sides. The port berth is taller with drawers underneath. This stateroom also has good ventilation through opening port lights and an opening hatch overhead. The sole is carpeted.
Forward head: The forward head is available to all aboard and features a standup shower stall with door. The granite counter has a sink and there is a medicine cabinet with mirror door. The toilet is a freshwater Tecma.
Owner Stateroom and Head: Going aft in from the landing, you step down to enter the spacious owner stateroom with prominent queen-sized berth. This is a quiet and comfortable location that is ideal for sleeping underway. The head and shower is conveniently located outboard to port.
Queen sized walk-around berth with custom innerspring mattress with memory foam top
Portuguese Bridge and Foredeck: The foredeck is surrounded by stainless steel rails for on-deck safety. The ground tackle is managed with the Muir horizontal windlass. The primary anchor is a Rocna Vulcan 40 KG. The Portuguese bridge has any easy walking path and built in lockers. The forward shore power connection is on the starboard side. Fuel can be filled from either the starboard side deck or in the portside steps up to the boat deck.
Boat Deck:
Flybridge: The flybridge visibility is outstanding and there is plenty of space to entertain your guests. The upper helm has all of the controls that you expect, including a helm bench seat for two. On the port side you have a comfortable settee. The area is protected overhead by a folding Bimini.
